Sittner pitches almost perfection, Avants has 5 RBI’s in rout of Corbett

CORBETT, OR - The scoreboard was turned off during the 4th inning due to the score. It was an embarrassment to the home team and their fans, as the Rangers handled their business in the best way possible, a 19-0 shutout of league rival Corbett.

The scoring started very early for Estacada (8-3, 3-1 Tri-Valley Conference), as senior Levi Albrecht got an RBI groundout that allowed senior Andy Avants to score. Three more Ranger runs crossed the plate in the 2nd, as Avants singles and Albrecht tripled to deep center field, giving Estacada a 4-0 lead.

“I’ve pitched against this team [Corbett] before and I’ve always had good outings,” said Sittner, who threw 51 pitches in 4 innings of work. “Even though we’ve beat them in the past, I knew it wasn’t going to be a game where we could go in with our heads high. We’ve been slacking the last couple games. I wanted to get us up early and shut them down so we could get up on the sticks.”

Coach Andrew Higgins said that key for the blowout win was hitting the baseball and playing defense. When asked about Sittner’s performance he jokingly remarked, “He had a walk, so in that aspect, he could have done a little bit better. Other than that, He threw well. [Sittner] threw lots of strikes, his off-speed was working pretty good today.”
