Teams split Saturday games

In Saturday's games, the teams split, with the West winning the opener 8-6, while the East came from behind to claim the nightcap 2-1.

The West took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Scio's Max Heil advanced Horizon Christian's Tyler Nakasone to third, and Warrenton's Mike Davis' sacrifice sent Nakasone home.

The East answered in the third, when Myrtle Point's Jake Stevens tripled to score Kyle Fields of Glide, and scored himself on Vale's Darin Johnson's single to left.

Salem Academy's Tyler Montgomery opened the game on the mound for the West.

The East added two more runs in the fourth inning Glide's Jeff Jackson doubled, and subsequently scored, to be followed by Cascade Christian's Jeremy Cheney, as Fields delivered another RBI.

Glide's Jeff Jackson scores, putting the East ahead 3-1.

The West scored three runs in the fifth inning, as Heil's single drove in fellow Tri-River star Jordan Lane from Salem Academy. Portland Christian's Greg Thompson scored next, and Heil tied it on another Davis RBI.

Scio's Max Heil singles. Heil had an RBI and scored a run in the fifth inning for the West.

Warrenton's MIchael Moore took over on the mound for the West in the fifth inning, and got the win.

Rainier's Jesse Renoude drove in Portland Christian's Eric Tolleson, then scored himself due to an East error, one of four in the game, in the sixth inning, ane the West built the lead to 7-4 in the seventh inning, as Tolleson drove in Nestucca's Charlie Sutton.

The East rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Burns' Drew Heinz opened the inning with a double to left center. Stanfield's Matt Ellis singled to advance Heinz, who scored on a sacrifice fly by Union's Kaden Titus. Burns' Logan Garner singled to score Ellis.

Burns' Drew Heinz crosses home plate, making the score 7-5 West.

With the tieing run on base, West Coach Adam Sarancik of Westside Christian turned to Kennedy's RJ Phillips. Phillips, who only arrived mid-game, due to graduation ceremonies, came in to "close" the game for the West, and got the West out of the inning with one pitch.

Kennedy's RJ Phillips came on in relief in the eighth inning, and got the save for the West.

Phillips then added an insurance run with an RBI double that drove in Sutton, and then proceeded to retire the East in the bottom of the ninth inning on only eight pitches to pick up the save, as the West won the opening game of the series 8-6.

Warrenton's Michael Moore, who took over for starter Tyler Montgomery of Salam Academy in the fifth inning, got the win. In all, the West hammered East pitching for 15 hits in the opener.

Elgin's Jake Kennedy's RBI single tied the game.
