The first day of the 14th Annual Les Schwab Invitational saw a couple close games sandwiched in between massive blowouts. The Jesuit Crusaders routed the Grant Generals in the opener, 93-55, as 6-foot 9-inch junior post Kyle Wiltjer displayed a seasoned all-around game, garnering 28 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, with 4 blocks. Jesuit played a very disciplined game, shooting 51% from the field while making 11 of 25 three point attempts. The Crusaders outrebounded Grant 49-26.
The Rainier Beach Vikings held off a determined Beaverton Beavers squad, pulling out a 71-61 victory. 6-foot 6-inch junior forward JoJo Stroud led the Vikings with 14 points and 9 rebounds while the Beavers 6-10 senior post Jordan Railey finished with 27 points and 9 rebounds. The Vikings solid guard play and mix of high flying athletes should be a great test for Jesuit on Monday night.
In the closest game of the night, the Lake Oswego Lakers held off a late charge from a disciplined Lincoln Cardinal squad, to pull out a 65-63 win. 6-foot 9-inch senior post Billy Reader scored 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds while 6-foot 5-inch junior wing Max Livingston scored 17 for the Lakers. 6-foot 3-inch junior wing Gavin Hoffman led a balanced Lincoln attack with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Westchester (LA) Comets led Hillsboro 18-2 after five minutes and 44-14 at halftime in a convincing, 79-34, blowout win to end the evening session. 6-foot 2-inch senior guard Jordin Mayes led the Comets with 19 points. Westchester is loaded with size, talent and depth at every position and should overpower Lake Oswego on Monday night. Juniors Joseph Jackson and Colt Lyerla led the Spartans with 11 points each. |
