2A North Completes Sweep

The 2A North completed a sweep of the South with another dominating second half, taking a 34 point, 94-60 win Saturday at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City. The North led 40-33 at the half, and again outshot and outrebounded the South to pull away.

North Douglas' Dustin Andes led the way with 17 points, and Oakland's Andrew Young added 15 more for the North. North Douglas' Tyler Vancil also had a double double, with 13 rebounds and 11 points. Lakeview's Jordan Kiely led the South with 14 points.

3A South Tops Century Mark Again

The 3A South again controlled the game, cruising to a 101-83 win. A huge advantage at the free throw line, mostly in the second half, where the South converted 20 of 25 free throws, compared to 4 of 8 by the North, contributed heavily to the outcome.

The South was led by Bryce Doherty of Riverside and Jasem Dulaney of Creswell, both of whom had 19 points. Meanwhile, Friday's top scorer, Brody McGowan of Harrisburg, added a double double, with 18 points and a game high 13 rebounds.

Conrad Ritchie of Clatskanie led all scorers with 26 points, but unlike the more balanced South, the North's next highest point total was 12 by Colton's Nick Connor.

4A South Turns Tables on North

The 4A South got 28 points from David Berney of Marist to control the majority of the second game of the series, and gain a split. Tarrance Glynn of Molalla again led the South with top numbers of 22 points and 8 rebounds.

The South prevailed despite a sizable advantage at the line for the North, who hit 22 of 28 free throws, compared to 10 of 12 for the South. However, relatively cold shooting from the floor, especially in the first half, when the South outshot the North 61 % to 41%, saw the South steadily stretch the lead.

The South bench also had a big advantage, producing 57 points compared to 36 for the North. The North did make a 22-10 run at the end of the game, but the margin had become too large to overcome.

5A South Pulls Out Overtime Win

Tied at 94 at the end of 40 minutes, the South outscored the North 16-12 in overtime to complete a hard fought weekend sweep of the South. The highly competitive game saw 7 ties and 6 lead changes.

Thurston's Drew Wiley poured in 31 points for the South, outdistancing the 27 points the North's Anthony Golden of Madison managed. One of the key differentials was Wiley's 10 of 11 mark at the free throw line, compared to Golden's North leading 2 for 2.

In all, the South sank 30 of 39 from the line, compared to only 11 of 23 by the North. The North erased Friday's deficit on the boards, especially due to a 24-12 advantage on the offensive end, but it wasn't quite enough to overcome their free throw shooting shortcomings.

6A South Scores Split with North

The 6A South won a shootout over the North 105-99, overcoming a 50-49 halftime North lead, to achieve a split to close this year's OACA All-Star Series Saturday night. Twelve ties and nine lead changes highlighted a game that never saw more than a 9 point margin.

"North" players led the South in scoring, as North Salem's Scott Starkey led all scorers with 22 for the South, and North Medford's Danny Berger was the shooting star of the game, hiting 9 of 11 shots, including 3 of 4 from 3 point range, for 21 more points for the South. Meanwhile, McMinnville's Kyle Long led the "true" North with 21 points, while Barlow's Seiji Blume led everyone on the boards, with 9 for the North.

In the close game, a +6 advantage in steals by the South translated into a +9 advantage in points off turnovers, and the difference in the game.
