Metro And State Split OACA Series

North Takes 4A/3A/2A Title

 

The format for the 43rd Annual Oregon Athletic Coaches Association All Star Basketball Series was to divide up some of the top graduating seniors from the state's 6A & 5A schools into the familiar Metro-State alignment, and the up-state and down-state hoops stars wound up splitting the series this past weekend.

 

The Metro team took Friday night's opener, played at Northwest Christian College in Eugene, by a 92-86 score. A 12-6 run in the final 5 minutes broke open an 80 all tie, with 9 of the points coming from Newberg's Jacoby Wolfe, who finished with 19.

 

Centenial's Dez Stoudamire had a game high 25 points for Metro, and Miles Brown from Sandy had a 13 point, 13 rebound double double.

 

Tanner Autencio from McMinnville led a balanced State attack, with 17 points, while Mason Green-Richards from South Eugene was right behind, with 16, and Bend's JJ Spitler added 15.

 

42nd OACA Basketball All-Star Series This Weekend

The 42nd Annual OACA All Star Series, for 2014 senior boys from 2A-3A-4A-5A-6A Oregon high schools, will be held this Friday, June 13th and Saturday, June 14th.

 

Friday’s games will be contested at Northwest Christian University, in the Morse Events Center in Eugene, while Saturday’s games will be hosted by Sprague High School in Salem.

 

The format for the Series consists of a Regional Tournament for the 2A-3A-4A schools and the historical State vs. Metro match up for the 5A-6A schools.

 

The Regional tournament divides the 2A-3A-4A schools into geographical squads (North-South-East-West) based upon league affiliation. Friday evening the East squad will take on the South team @ 5:00, followed by the North vs. West game @ 6:30. On Saturday the losing teams from Friday will play @ 4:00 in the 3rd place game, while the Friday winners play for the Regional Championship @ 5:30. Immediately after the Championship game the Regional All-Tournament team will be announced.

 

The State vs. Metro format follows a 42 year tradition when the State team hosts the Metro Friday @ 8:30 am. Saturday the two teams again take the court for state bragging rights @ 7:15. After the Saturday game the “Star of Stars” (MVP) awards will announced.

State Snares First Game

 

The 5A/6A State All-Stars downed the Metro squad 109-93 Friday night, behind the 1-2 scoring punch of West Albany's Chad Sherwood and West Salem's Alex Roth, who scored 25 and 24 points, respectively. Southridge's Caleb Herzberg led the Metro, with 22 points.

West and South Advance To Title Game

 

The 4A/3A/2A West and South regional teams advanced to Saturday's Championship game.

All Star Basketball Series Scheduled

On Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15, the OACA will be hosting their 41st Annual All Star Basketball Series.

 
This year the games will be at the Morse Events Center on the Northwest Christian University in Eugene on Friday and at Wilsonville High School on Saturday.
 
The 2A-3A-4A all Stars have been divided into 4 geographical teams (based upon leagues) and will play a mini tournament, with the champion to be declared on Saturday. Friday's games begin @ 5:00 with the East challenging the South. The 2nd game on Friday is scheduled to begin at 7:00 with the North battling the West.
 
The 5A-6A All Stars will compete against each other in the State-Metro Series. Game time Friday for this nightcap game is set at 8:30.
 
Saturday's schedule in Wilsonville has the Regional Consolation/3rd Place Game beginning @ 4:00, followed by the championship game @ 5:30. The State-Metro Series takes the court @ 7:15 pm. An awards ceremony follows both the championship game and the State-Metro game.
 
Admission is $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for students, $2.00 for youth & Seniors.
Souvenir Programs ($5.00), T shirts ($17.00), and concessions will be available both nights.

Metro Sweeps State, East Earns 4A/3A/2A Title In OACA Series

The Metro All-Stars swept the weekend series from the down-state State All-Stars in this weekend's OACA All-Star basketball series, and the East All-Stars won the tournament format used tor the 4A/3A/2A games.

 

The 40th annual series started Friday night at Northwest Christian University, and the South All-Stars used a 29 point performance by Kevin Wynne of Mazama to out-distance the North team 82-76. The South opened a 42-27 lead at halftime, and held off the North's second half rally to advance to the championship game.

 

The East earned the other berth in Saturday's championship game by pulling away from the West for an 87-77 win, after the West had held a 42-41 lead at the break. The East was led by an 18 point effort by Bobby Ahern from Madras, which outweighed the balanced efforts of the West team.

 

Friday night concluded with the 5A/6A Metro All-Stars obliterating the State All-Stars, with a half dozen players in double figures, co-led by Michone Hopkins from Milwaukie and Wilsonville's Kevin Marshall, both of whom had 19 points. The Metro All-Stars shot at or above 55% from the field in both halves.

 

All-Star Basketball Series set for this Friday/Saturday

The 40th anniversary of the OACA All-Star basketball series gets underway on Friday night with a slightly revised format.  For the 5A/6A games, the matchup has reverted back to the old State vs Metro format.  For the 2A/3A/4A games, schools have been grouped geographically by league and will play a region vs region mini-tournament.

 

The June 15 (Friday) games are again at Northwest Christian University with games starting at 5pm.  The June 16 (Saturday) games have moved to Wilsonville HS due to graduation ceremonies at Clackamas CC.

 

Admission is $5/adults; $4/High school & college Students; $2/youth; $2/Seniors

Souvenir T shirts (with the 2012 players' names), Series programs, & concessions will be on sale both days.

39th annual OACA All-Star Series This Friday and Saturday

The 39th annual OACA Summer Basketball All-Star series is this weekend, with games Friday at Northwest Christian University in Eugene, and Saturday at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City.

Coaches from across the state at the 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A level have nominated & selected the top seniors from the class of 2011 to represent their schools and communities one last time on the hardwood.

Some of Oregon's best prep hoop stars have participated over the years including Eric Fiegi, Chris Rogers, Blake Stepp, Robert Day, Brian Jackson, Luke Jackson, Jon Hildebrandt, Logan Garvin, Adam Masten, Freddie Jones, Mike McShane, Bill Swancutt, Derek Anderson, Mike Doleac, Craig Stinnett, Willie Graham, Damon Stoudamire, Geoff Grass, David Brown, Bob Cavel, AC Green, Charlie Sitton, Danny Ainge, and Rick Ravio.

Tip off times both days are 2A @ 1:30,  3A @ 3:15,  4A @ 5:00,  5A @ 6:45,  6A @ 8:30. On Saturday evening, a "Star of Stars" presentation will be made after each game.

Admission is $5 for Adults, $4 for high school students & up, $2 for middle school students, and $2 for Seniors. The price of admission is good for the entire day's activities.

Concessions, souvenir-grade programs, and of course T shirts, will also be available.
