Three Cascade athletes, as well as three Santiam Christian volleyball players, and one from Stayton, all announced their plans to continue their athletic careers in college recently.

Elayna Van Hess to Walla Walla

Cascade softball pitcher Elayna Van Hess, a four year starter for the Cougars, has signed to play softball at Walla Walla, WA, Community College. Van Hess started at second base as a freshman in 2005 for Cascade’s state runner up team, and has been the starting pitcher the last three seasons.

Van Hess was an all-Capital Conference selection the last two years as well, and was a second team all-state pick in 2007.

Melissa Oliver to Linn-Benton

Stayton’s Melissa Oliver, a first team all-Capital Conference selection last fall, has signed to continue her volleyball career at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany.

Three Santiam Christian Eagles to Continue Volleyball Careers

Santiam Christian capped a 26-4 season with the third place trophy last fall at the 3A Volleyball state tournament. That run has sent three players on to college volleyball careers.

Outside hitter Kristin Knaupp has committed to play for George Fox University in Newberg this fall. Knaupp was chosen the Pac-West co-player of the year, and was a first team all-state and all-tournament selection.

Kalyssa Koontz, a middle hitter for the Eagles, will play with Northwest Christian College in Eugene. Koontz is also a standout pitcher for the Santiam Christian Softball team.

Tiffany Land, another middle hitter for the Eagles, has also signed to play for Corban College of Salem.

A pair of Cougars and a Silver Fox sign on with the Storm

Cascade’s Angelina Klein and Alicia Tuttle formed a bruising tandem for three years for Cascade, and will continue to do so at Chemeketa Community College in Salem.

Tuttle, a 5’11” post, was named to the all-Capital Conference second team after this past season, while Klein, a 5’9” post, was honorable mention all-Capital Conference. This while splitting minutes at the same position for the Cougars.

Silverton’s Mindy Cox has also signed a letter of intent with the Storm.

James Kelsh headed to SW Oregon

Blanchet outfielder James Kelsh, a first team all Tri-River Conference selection last year, as well as an honorable mention to last season’s 2A all state team, will play next season for the Lakers of Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay.

Salem Players to help Storm start up Soccer

Chemeketa Community College is also starting up a soccer program next fall, and 2006 McNary graduate Eddy Hooper and Dahir Jacobo from North Salem have signed up to be a part of the start up for the Storm.
