Williams had to say after the game, when informed of his totals of 258 rushing yards and 33 more receiving, was “That’s a lot!” Not that there was much left to say. Williams’ 3 touchdown performance, coupled with Casey Johnson’s 14 points on 2 touchdown catches and a 2 point conversion, led the Cougars (1-0) over the Seagulls (0-1).
Capital Week 1Written by Andy Wooldridge (CCCougarfan) Tuesday, 21 August 2007 11:42 Hits: 859 Last year, the Capital Conference was an array of question marks at the start of the season, and this year is no different. With multiple coaching changes and multiple key graduation losses, there will once again be a wide open race for the playoffs.
4 games against the Cowapa will give an early indication of how the leagues stack up against each other.

The East rose up in the Girls' Basketball All-Star series for the 4A, 3A, & 2A/1A games, winning 5 of 6 games.
The Metro area 6A baseball graduates broke out the bats in the Jim Dorn All-Star Game, at the expense of the boys from down state.
Oregonian Cups AwardedWritten by Andy Wooldridge (CCCougarfan) Wednesday, 13 June 2007 03:09 Hits: 654 The Spring Activities season is now complete, and the end of the year brings the awarding of the Oregonian Cup in each of the 6 classes, to the schools whose overall programs proved strongest.
The Cup award began with the 1999-2000 school year, and the Oregonian became the sponsor of the award in 2002. Schools earn points equally for participation in, and their finish, in each OSAA State Championship, both athletics and activities, and also for top 10 finishes in the Dairy Farmers of Oregon OSAA Academic All-State Program. Sportsmanship plays a part as well, with points earned for each season with no ejections. The program truly makes team-mates of all the members of all the athletic and activity programs.
Biggest Championship Weekend on the DiamondsWritten by Andy Wooldridge (CCCougarfan) Sunday, 03 June 2007 01:31 Hits: 532 When the OSAA expanded the classification system, it set the stage for an unprecedented situation. 10 (count them), 10 (!) State Championships to be won on the diamonds in 2 days!
It also produced more coverage of High School Baseball and Softball than ever before. In addition to the news links in the OregonPrepSports.Net Scoreboard section, there is a wealth of additional coverage, and we have links (over 30!) to lots of it.

Cover a State Championship, of course! A trip to the LaSells Sewart Center across the street from Reser Stadium provided the opportunity to hear the best High School Concert Bands the state has to offer. (Updated with Complete Results for all classes.)
OSAA Redistricting Saga UpdateWritten by Andy Wooldridge (CCCougarfan) Sunday, 22 April 2007 13:09 Hits: 1045 The Oregon Board of Education, the Oregon Senate, and the OSAA itself, all took action this past week in response to the continuing saga of the most recent redistricting plan, and the political responses it produced.
Update: On Wednesday, May 2, the Oregon Court of Appeals upheld the OSAA's Redistricting process, ruling against the Salem-Keizer, Eugene, and Medford school districts, in their appeal of the process. The schools can still appeal further to the Oregon State Supreme Court.
Further Update: On May 8, the Salem-Keizer School Board decided to not appeal the decision. Board member Ron Jones stated "This is a horse that's dead. Let's quit beating it."(Referring to the fact that even if the appeal is heard, it would be at least 2008 before any decision could be reached, and by the time any changes could be implemented, the OSAA will be well into the process for the next redistricting cycle, which will be implemented in the fall of 2010, anyway. Salem-Keizer also won't add further to the apprx. $82,000 in legal bills they have encurred in the process.
Southwest Conference Update: The Associated Press reported on May 22nd. that the Medford School District and the Eugene School District have decided to pursue an appeal to the Oregon State Supreme Court. Medford officials estimate they have spent less than $20,000 pursuing appeals, and will spend another $1,000. Their participation in the appeal was contingent on Eugene's decision to appeal. Eugene has spent an estimated $150,000 on the appeals so far. 4A Wrap upWritten by Andy Wooldridge (CCCougarfan) Sunday, 11 March 2007 12:20 Hits: 743 Goals & ObjectivesBaker really had 3 objectives in the tournament, and they met them all. Everyone comes to win it all. It’s a more reasonable goal for some than others. Stayton’s girls came in to the postseason with a long list of related goals. So long, it would seem to be too much for anyone. And maybe the basketball community collectively should adopt a goal regarding game style. On the Wings of EaglesWritten by Andy Wooldridge (CCCougarfan) Sunday, 11 March 2007 12:02 Hits: 514 The Eagles have had that rare combination which, when it does occur, often produces a champion, 3 4 year starters. Those 3 have seen it all together, and some of it wasn’t pretty. 4A 4Cast – Tournament WeekWritten by Andy Wooldridge (CCCougarfan) Sunday, 04 March 2007 06:52 Hits: 1201 Boys
The Cowapa and the Capital Conferences both send 2 teams to the tournament, while the Far West, GOL, Skyline, and Sky-Em each send 1. The Valco is shut out of the building, the only conference with neither a boys or girls team in town.
#1 didn't make it, but 2-5 did, in a year where half the top 10 didn't. 2 from the top 10 lost on the road to higher ranked teams, but 3 lost in theoretical upsets.
Coug (Andy Wooldridge) went 8-4, while NC (Dan Smith) and Packy (Greg Stackhouse) were 7-5, in the first week of March Madness.
Girls
Just like on the boys' side, the Cowapa & Capital sends 2 teams to the tournament. So does the Far West and the Sky-Em. The GOL & Skyline are gone, and the Valco is really gone. If in December you predicted 2 bulldogs in the tournament, it wouldn't have raised any eyebows. But to predict they would be Brown and Blue, and the Purple ones would be the on the boys side (after drawing a #1), would have.
7 of the top 11 made it to the elite 8, and only 6 of the top 8 could get there. 5 of them did, including 1 & 2, but not 3, 4, or 7.
The Coug was a bit wild in the Weekly Wild Guesses, 6-5-1, while NC and Packy weren't very wild at all, going 9-2-1. Lebron (Coach Travis Newton) was 9-1-2.
