Mohawk’s Brody Wilkins Leads Strong West Effort

La Grande- It’s been six months since the end of the 2007 football season, and Brody Wilkins and his Mohawk teammates haven’t missed a beat. Wilkins threw two touchdown passes and ended an East threat with an interception in the end zone during the West’s 28-2 win in the 19th annual Oregon 8-Man All Star Football Game at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande.

The East team struck first, scoring a safety by forcing Wilkins out of the back of the end zone in the West’s first possession of the game. But the West responded with a thirteen play, ninety-six yard drive that ate up 7:45 off the clock. Falls City alum Kameron Graham scored from five yards out to give the West the lead for good with 11:06 left in the first half.

Wilkins added another score before the break, hitting Mohawk teammate Dean Krull for a forty-three yard strike to put the West ahead 14-2 at halftime.

The West slammed the door on the East all-stars by scoring two touchdowns in fourteen seconds to end the third quarter and start the fourth. With two seconds left in the third, Wilkins found Country Christian’s Isaac McKinley behind the East defense for a fifty-four yard strike. After Tyson Ludwig took in the two point conversion for a 22-2 lead, Wilkins kicked and recovered an on-side attempt that gave the West possession at the East 45. Perrydale’s Justin Storm then came off the bench to throw a forty-five yard touchdown pass to Krull to cap off the scoring.

The West racked up 324 of offense and held the East to 228 yards. Wilkins was named the games Most Valuable Player while Kameron Graham was named the West’s Offensive Player-of-the-Game. Dufur’s Matt Hammel, who rushed eleven times for forty yards was named the East teams Offensive Player-of-the-Game. The defensive Players-of-the-Game were Alsea’s Dustin Webb for the West and Joseph’s Ben Garnett for the East. Willy Johnson of Days Creek (West) and Imbler’s Jake Noyes (East) were named the most inspirational players.
