Oregon Teams Fare Well at OC's "Class of the Field"Girls Basketball - Girls Basketball News Written by Don Francis Sunday, 20 June 2010 17:53 Hits: 3497 A frolicking fun-filled Fathers Day Final with a frantic finish as Oregon City Black held off nemisis Clackamas 63-61 in the "Class of the Field"Championship Game. Leave it to the Three Rivers League duo to make the first statement to the Metro League and all the rest as high school basketball gives way to AAU teams. Many of the Sunday final games came down to final possessions. No better way for a father to spend a Fathers Day than watching their daughter on the floor. Some notes and observations from the past three days. 3A Hoops Tourney Heads To Coos BayBlogs - CCCougarfan Blog Written by Andy Wooldridge (CCCougarfan) Tuesday, 27 July 2010 12:07 Hits: 99 Site of Old A-2 Tourney Replaces Willamette
The OSAA Executive Board has moved the 3A boys and girls basketball tournamentsback to Coos Bay, and Marshfield High School, which was the site of the (then) A-2 boys basketball tournament from 1959 thru 1970.
After this year's event at Willamette University reached overflow status for the Saturday night finals, and experienced problems due to insufficient parking during weekdays again, an issue that plagued the event during it's recent four year run in Salem, a proposal was made to the OSAA move the tournament to Coos Bay.
Stellar Hoop a Given at Nike Global ChallengeBoys Basketball - Boys Basketball News Written by Don Francis Wednesday, 28 July 2010 16:40 Hits: 174 Last year them dang 'furiners,' including one Kyle "the Canuck" Wiltjer, beat up on the best high school players in the ol' U. S. of A. as foreign teams took two of three openers from U.S squads. This season, once again, all the top high schoolers from around the globe will lace them up and git' after it at Liberty High School in the Fourth Annual Nike Global Challenge. Two years ago, the number one pick in the NBA draft, John Wall, wowed em. Last year North Carolina's Harrison Barnes exploded for 46 points in a dominant performance. Who will dazzle this year? I keep saying it, the best sporting deal in the state of Oregon is the $5 Admission for a full day of amazing basketball. Mark August 6th to 8th on your calendar right now. Oregon City Tourney to Showcase Best Northwest Girls Hoop TeamsGirls Basketball - Girls Basketball News Written by Don Francis Thursday, 17 June 2010 17:05 Hits: 1699 Time to tip-off and not your standard AAU fare. These are traditional high schools fighting it out in the Oregon City "Class of the Field" Tournament. First round is set for 9am Friday when 64 of the top teams in Washington, Idaho and Oregon will square off in two 32 Team Brackets. The opening rounds are filled with fantastic matchups. These are the same teams that will be playing for hardware come next March. Of the 64, just 29 are from Oregon but they are most of the top 5A and 6A teams. Lets look at some of the doozies. Both teams, games and players. Openers-Beaverton vs. Willamette (Putnam: 11:40am Friday)-One of the top Metro teams takes on a legit top ranked 5A team. Both have great head coaches who are like Brothers with the major Ego they bring to the floor (love those guys!). Beavertons team speed in the backcourt is the best in the state. They're both smaller teams who play collectively better than their opponents on a regular basis. If these two teams were featured on Star Trek, they'd both be part of the Borg Collective Hive.
