4A 4Cast, Playoff Week 2

All the Big Boys Come Out To Play Now

It’s the biggest week of the playoffs, with eight games on the schedule. None of the two seeds in action the first week were knocked out, and the only upset was Pleasant Hill downing a ranked Newport team. The Cowapa continued to flex its muscles, with the two largest margins of victory.

"Another Civil War to Decide Rose Bowl Game...Yawnnn"

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by Cipole Monday, 16 November 2009 16:23    Hits: 1251

I'm telling you, these Civil War games with a Rose Bowl berth on the line are getting so ho-hum. It would mark the third time in this decade alone that it could happen with a couple of firsts. This could pan out where its a 'winner takes the Roses' game for the first time in 45 years. The 2000 game was the Ducks to lose...and they did.  The 2008 was the Beavers to lose...and they did. For the first time in this decade or even millennia, the game will be decided in Autzen and not Reser and both are masters of their own destiny. If you'd sat in the stands in the late 1970's and mumbled in a drunken stupor (as thats all most people did at Beaver and Duck games back in that era) the Beavs and Ducks would both be playing for Rose Bowl berths on a regular basis in 30 years, your friends would call the paramedics to have you taken away for alcohol poisoning. Nostradamus wrote a long quattrain explaining the whole thing it has been said.

Perry Leads Central Catholic to 56-34 Win Over Newberg

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by Don Francis Friday, 13 November 2009 22:57    Hits: 394

On paper it looked like it might be a good close game. Central Catholic senior quarterback Jordan Perry had other idea's. After falling behind 7-0 to Newberg, Perry would finish out the first half and go 15-19 for 259 yards and toss three touchdown passes to lead the Rams to a 35-14 lead at the half and they would never look back.

#3 Canby Squishes North Medford 62-24

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by Andy Wooldridge (CCCougarfan) Friday, 13 November 2009 21:58    Hits: 623

Cougars Use 12 Rushers, 3 QBs to Calm Black Tornado

North Medford’s first return to the playoffs since 2005 didn’t last long, as Canby rushed for 416 yards, and piled up 628 yards of total offense, taking a 35-21 halftime lead, and the 62-24 win.

Additionally, the Canby defense, and field conditions, held North Medford to just 40 yards rushing.

Playing their first game of the season not on turf, very poor field conditions was initially a tough adjustment for the Black Tornado, who could never get their drive blocking going. And the quick out routes that are the staple of North Medford’s passing game were just not possible on a field that cuts could not be made on. And the Black Tornado’s defense, predicated on pursuit, was largely disabled as well.

At the same time, Canby coach Mike Doty’s wing T offense, featuring a huge stable of north-south running backs were tailor made for the situation. The game “featured” a number of big plays, because pursuit was impossible on what was essentially a cultivated field, and the Cougars were far better at keeping the game in front of themselves.

Ranking and Rating The 3A Playoffs

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by SE Svenson (also known as Liverworts) Friday, 13 November 2009 21:54    Hits: 2840

Would you consider reading a 3A playoff preview filled with rankings and ratings written by someone who has never seen any of the teams play this season?  But wait, what if it was written by someone who picked the most 3A games correctly in the Pick ‘Em Challenge over the entire season?   If you answered no to both questions…stop reading.  If you are curious, I hope you enjoy the read.

First round, one game at a time…
