In 1A Casco league action Friday night, the Perrydale Pirates outgunned the St. Paul Buckaroos to pull into a tie for 3rd place in the Casco league standings.
St. Paul came out fast and furious in the 1st quarter, pushing the game tempo offensively and relentlessly pressing the Pirates with their defense. This strategy worked in the 1st quarter, as the Pirates became flustered with the fast pace and continuous press, and their ball handling suffered because of it. St. Paul led 9-4 at the end of one.
Perrydale's Coach Lindell finally got his girls to calm down in the 2nd quarter, as they started to control the ball and the game pace. St. Paul's relentless pressure started to backfire in this quarter, as the Buckaroos found themselves getting into foul trouble in the 2nd quarter. Perrydale's measured and effecient attack in the 2nd quarter started to turn the momentum of the game, as the Pirates scored 14 points in the 2nd quarter, while the Buckaroos could only manage 6. Perrydale led at the half, 19-15.
In the 3rd quarter, Perrydale completely dominated St. Paul, as the Pirates' defense smothered the Buckaroo offense. The Pirates especially went to work on the boards in this quarter as they rarely gave St. Paul any second chances. Any momentum that St. Paul might have still had heading into this quarter completely vanished by the end of the quarter, as Perrydale took complete control of the game, scoring 14 points and shutting out St. Paul in the 3rd. Perrydale's lead at the end of this quarter had now increased to 33-15
In the 4th quarter, Perrydale continued to control the boards, ending the game with 33 total rebounds. The Buckaroos tried to keep up with the Pirates, but Perrydale was just too much at both ends of the court, winning this one with ease, 46-24.
Perrydale's Haley Woods had 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Cali Cruickshank had 12 points, and Elisabeth Overaasen 8, to lead all Pirate scorers.
St. Paul's Natile Stone had 12 points, and Sarah McKay had 4 points to lead all Buckaroo scorers.
Both Perrydale and St. Paul are now tied for 3rd in the Casco league with 8-4 records.
