Koehnkes Led Rams to 3 Titles

Regis has turned to the father and son team of Jeff and Jason Koehnke to coach the Rams' girls' baksetball team, replacing Jon Heuberger. The Koehnkes, who spent the last two hoops seasons coaching the youth basketball team that Jeff's daughter Whitney has played on, led the Rams' boys to three straight state 2A titles in the 2003, 2004, and 2005 seasons.

The run of titles has only been equaled once, by the three straight titles Central won in 1988-1990, in any boys' class in Oregon history.

Regis Athletic Director Don Heuberger said "The Koehnkes' record speaks for itself. If they can do the same for the girls' program as they did for the boys' program, then we will be in good hands."

Heuberger led the Rams to a 16-11 record and the first round of the playoffs in the 2007 season, and a 13-12 record in the 2008 season, before being eliminated in the PacWest playoffs.

The unusual co-coaching arrangement continues a successful formula with the group of girls at Regis, as several players off the Koehnke coached youth teams will be on the Regis squad. After evaluating the team so far in summer ball, Jeff Koehnke said "The girls work hard. They play together, and I think they're going to be a lot of fun to watch. I'm very excited!"
