OSAA Championship Committee Continues It’s WorkBlogs - CCCougarfan Blog Written by Andy Wooldridge (CCCougarfan) Wednesday, 24 February 2010 19:31 Hits: 259 The End of the Breakfast Brackets May Be Near On The West Side
This week, the OSAA Championship Committee held a work session to review input received from members and the general public, and continue their deliberations toward how to move forward with championships in the age of hybrid leagues and a faltering economy.
Regionalization and a reduction in participation numbers in the individual sports continues to be an evolving idea, aimed at cost reduction. The process recognizes that district meets in hybrid districts may not be the best solution. In reality, the average competitor, and the average spectator, may have a hard time distinguishing a regional meet from a current league meet. Further, the idea of regional competition is an idea that was, and is again. (Many) Years ago, there was a layer of “district” playoffs between league qualification and state in some sports, and at some levels.
The greater impact will be to see fewer total participants reach the state meet in some sports. This is where the committee’s two main directives come into conflict, as a better level of competition can be at odds with cost savings.

The Jefferson girls gave Head Coach Ikeya Newton a state crown in her very first year at the helm. In the four previous games against their league nemisis this season, Crater fell four consecutive times. That finally came to an end Saturday when under the warmth of the Mac Court scoreboard, they blossomed in a dizzying array of spectacular colors. We hear 'third times a charm,' but the saying 'fifth times a charm' belongs to the Crater girls as they walked away with the OSAA Third Place Trophy in easily their sweetest win of the season. 2009-10 Boys Basketball All-State SelectionsBoys Basketball - Boys Basketball All-Stars Written by OregonPrepSports.net Monday, 15 March 2010 07:00 Hits: 668 Last Updated on Monday, 15 March 2010 08:42 We at oregonprepsports.net are gathering all of the all-state teams for the 2009-2010 season.

MWL Hoops is Back!Blogs - MWL/SWC Blog Written by DRH Sunday, 07 February 2010 19:46 Hits: 213 Hey, remember me? No? That’s what I get for not contributing to this site for over a month. I used to be the MWL/SWC guy. But don’t fear, I’m a lot like Brett Favre. I don’t need no stinkin’ training camp to get back into the game, though I may drop the ball towards the end with a soul-crushing interception (across the body, Brett? Really?).6A Girls – 3rd Place GameGirls Basketball - Girls Basketball Recaps Written by Andrew Millbrooke Saturday, 13 March 2010 15:27 Hits: 284 Pioneers Earn 3rd Place Trophy, Defeat Axemen 61-56
(Portland) – Oregon City (28-1) took an early lead, then withstood a furious fourth quarter rally by the South Eugene Axemen (25-5), pulling out a 61-56 victory in the 3rd place game in the afternoon session at the Rose Garden on Saturday. The Pioneers rebounded to win the third place trophy, after suffering its first loss in 37 games in the semi-finals on Friday to Southridge. “It was a huge disappointment,” Oregon City coach Kurt Guelsdorf said of the loss. “There is an expectation level here to be playing on Saturday night. If you can’t win it all, you want to end with a win.” Oregon City has been the dominant team in girls basketball for the past two decades, winning 11 titles and playing in the state tournament for 26 straight seasons. “There is a lot of pride in Oregon City basketball,” Guelsdorf added. “We’re going to play hard and play with a lot of pride.” South Eugene returns four solid juniors that played big minutes this season and should be a factor again next season in the state championship picture. “Steve (Eastburn) does a great job with their program,” Guelsdorf said. “The Eugene area has a lot of basketball talent.” 6A Boys – Championship GameBoys Basketball - Boys Basketball Recaps Written by Andrew Millbrooke Saturday, 13 March 2010 22:53 Hits: 1035 Jesuit Leaves No Doubt, Wins Second Straight Championship

Oregon Girls Basketball

(Portland) – Southridge (26-2) stormed back from a 10 point halftime deficit, outscoring the Crusaders 21-3 over a 10 minute stretch to claim its fifth 6A girls title in the past six seasons with a 47-38 victory over league rival Jesuit (22-7) in the state championship game at the Rose Garden on Saturday night. The Skyhawks kept up intense full-court pressure defense the entire second half by rotating fresh bodies, finally wearing down the Crusaders in the final quarter. “It feels great to come back and do what we needed to do to get the win,” 5’9 junior Allison Greene said. “Once we got going on our run, it was over.” "It's amazing, a dream come true," 5'6 senior Dominique Johnson said. "I'm so proud of this team. I love my team."
