Regis uses 11-0 run in final 3 minutes to secure 4th straight 2A title

A06A4391 copyPENDLETON – Top ranked Regis captured its fourth consecutive 2A basketball title, and fifth straight overall, with a gutsy 36-29 victory over TRC rival #6 Western Mennonite. Many observers thought 30 points might win this battle between the two best defensive teams in the tournament. That proved to be true, as the Pioneers failed to score in the last three minutes of the game, watching a four-point lead turn into a seven point loss as Regis scored the last 11 points of the game.

In earlier trophy action, #5 Lost River redeemed itself from last year’s early exit with a 57-38 win over #7 Santiam in the 3rd-5th place game. In the 9:00 am game, #3 Union held #9 Portland Christian to single digits in all four periods, claiming the 4th place trophy, 36-29.
