The brave new world of reclassification is beginning to shake out the schedules. Great games are popping up, sometimes not where most would be looking. Some mismatches have too.

But some obvious matchups don’t care about districting. Witness last week the Jesuit-C.Catholic Holy War, the double OT Bend-Redmond game, Ashland & Phoenix (separated by 3 pts. & 5 miles; and 42 years since their last meeting), the 1 pt. Lake O-Southridge game.  Wasn’t too hard to see those coming.

This week has some games that, based on rankings (Oregonprepsports’ fans rankings used) and records, are going to shake up those rankings.

In addition to 2 covered in the 4A 4Cast [4A game of the week, #1 Scappoose (2-0) @ #3 Marist (1-1), and 3A #2 Nyssa (2-0) @ #10 Baker (2-0)], here are 10 more to stop and see this week if you are in the area (which means anywhere within a 1 hr. drive), and not headed to “your” team’s game.

6A game of the week #2 Lincoln (1-0) @ #3 Southridge (2-0). The Cardnials apparently will be without QB Connor Kavanaugh due to concussion effects. Still, there is a lot to be interested in here.

Co-6A game of the week. #4 Lake O (1-1) @ #1 Jesuit (2-0). Lake O doesn’t duck. Jesuit doesn’t need to.

5A game of the week #1 Sherwood (2-0) @ #3 West Albany (2-0). This is kind of crossing of 2 different orbits that makes the reclass interesting.

3A game of the week. #1 Santiam Christian (2-0) @ #3 Dayton (2-0). This one is isn’t new. But as good as ever.  Surgery for Coach Dewey Sullivan this week for a non-cancerous growth behind the eye (reports are it went well) eclipses any other injury report in the state. But he wouldn’t have it any other way than to have the focus on the game & the players.  Assistant coach Rob Umbenhower will lead the Pirates for a few weeks until Coach Sullivan comes back of IR.

2A game of the week is a muddled choice. The top 7 are playing up or out of state opponents, & #8 has the week off. My choice is #5 Cascade Christian (1-1) @ 3A #6 Gold Beach (2-0), the only game involving 2 ranked teams.

1A game of the week #7 Wallowa (1-1) @ #3 Dufur (1-1).

4 more that probably affect the rankings at some point include:

Barlow (2-0) @ #8 Clackamas (1-0). Classic Mt. Hood – 3 Rivers matchup.

#6 Tualatin (2-0) @ S. Medford (1-0).  Big test both ways.

Klamath (2-0) @ #10 Marshfield (2-0). Big test for the Pelicans. Marshfield might just have something to say about the 5A playoffs.

S. Eugene (2-0) @ N. Eugene (1-0). Oldest rivalry in Eugene.

With these (and more) to choose from, I don’t see why TV ratings should be very good for the debut of ABC’s “Men in Trees”.
