2018 Premature Playoff Predictions, Week 4

It's time for another season of Premature Playoff Predictions. Much has changed about Oregon high school football in the past year, but I got my spreadsheets adjusted, and (assuming I didn't make any typos) I'm ready to start guessing at what will happen.   Game predictions are based on the Freeman rankings...

MWL Color-By-Numbers Edition

Some random thoughts today, focusing on hoops but spreading the wealth to the local football and baseball scenes as well.

A Jumbled Mess of Random Thoughts

Some rapid, frantic thoughts on a big week in high school athletics: state championships in football, and the start of basketball season.

The OSAA takes a test, and flunks it terribly

The OSAA has a geography problem.

In 2006, when the OSAA first split the former 4A classification into two separate entities (6A and 5A), the magical/random enrollment cut-off between the two was 1521.

Spring forward, if you will, to 2014. South of Salem, there are exactly four schools with enrollments that meet that cut-off: North and South Medford, Roseburg, and Grants Pass. Every single other school in the state that meets that cut-off? North of Salem.

MWL/SWC Week 4

Let’s take a look at your upcoming Week 4 SWC and MWL games. The league openers are in the books, and some interesting league races are already forming.

6A, 5A Week 1 Guide, Plus Wacky Predictions

Jake LaCoste DSC03903Hey sports fans, consider this your official (and by official, I of course mean unofficial) preseason magazine for the Eugene/Springfield area, with bonus coverage on the 6A/5A statewide scene. Treat this blog like Phil Steele or Lindy’s, keeping in mind that you get what you pay for, and this blog doesn’t cost you a nickel.

Let’s start off looking at Week 1. Who plays who (whom?)? Which games are worth seeing? Is your team hitting the road and you want to check out a local game? This here is one stop shopping!

Lets begin with 6A, specifically the SWC. Hey, gotta pay the bills, and this is a SWC/MWL blog, after all.

(Don't worry, there's plenty of 5A to follow.)

The State of the Programs Address

Taking some liberties with the current OSAA classification issues and league assignments, here is your 2013 MWL State of the Programs Address for the Eugene/Springfield area 6A/5A schools. Feels weird not including Marshfield, but the times, they are a changin'.

Careful now, this guy is musing over here

Here’s what I’m thinking about this week. Buyer beware: you get what you pay for, and this blog is free.

1. Hey, I listen to your crackpot theories, now here’s mine.

We all have our own OSAA reclassification ideas. I’ve read dozens. Hundreds. Some of them make a lot of sense. Some of them are straight out of crazytown. I tend to think mine will come off more like the latter… but hey. I also think it makes a bit of sense. Will it work for everybody? Probably not. But that’s okay. I’m going to share it anyway (and no, I don’t think it has a shot of ever happening).

MWL/SWC: Shifting From Fall to Winter

A look at the newly underway hoops season, predictions, and I hear Sheldon recently won a football game.

MWL Baseball: Thurston, Sheldon Take Their Act to the Big Stage

A pair of MWL rivals meet for the right to trip to Volcanoes Stadium in Salem to play for the 6A title? That's good eatin'.
