OL/DL Charles Siddoway, formerly of Marist, formerly (kind of) of South Eugene, will now be attending Sheldon High School for his senior season.
Siddoway, a 6-6, 305 pound linemen, rated four stars by Scout.com, transfered from Marist to South Eugene over the summer, but because two former Marist assistant coaches moved over to South Eugene as well, the OSAA declared that Siddoway would be ineligible on August 18, should Siddoway participate in South's first official fall practice. He did not participate in practice on the 18th, instead waiting for a ruling to the situation.
When one did not become available by Monday evening, he withdrew from South and enrolled at Sheldon. Ironically, his eligibility to play for South was granted Tuesday afternoon, but only after he had been accepted into Sheldon. Isn't the Eugene 4J open-enrollment policy fun?
Obviously, this is a big blow to South Eugene, but Sheldon has to be all smiles right about now. Can you imagine the Irish DL? Siddoway (305 lb) and Drew Miner (330 lb) inside, with Oregon-bound Curtis White (230 lb) and Derek Nielson (225) speeding off the edge? The pressure the front four will be able to generate is absurd, and team that with one of the state's best secondaries ready to take advantage of all the rushed throws... oy.
To say nothing of the anchor at offensive tackle QB Jordan Johnson just received to keep him off his back. Get ready, 6A -- Sheldon has an incredibly talented junior class, but I didn't think they'd repeat as state champions; 2009 was looking like their year to make another serious run. Now? I'd rank Sheldon as my preseason #1.
Siddoway has known big-time scholarship offers from Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, UCLA, Cal, Boise State, and Alabama.
(OPS.net edit: Siddoway’s mother Terri Siddoway explained “Charles got concerned when the hardship committee did not make a ruling on Monday. After a sleepless night decided, he decided he wanted to transfer to Sheldon, and be sure he would have a place to play. He is eligible to play immediately with the Irish because he never practiced at South Eugene.”)
This was the second four star prospect South Eugene has lost this week. On Monday, Scout.com reported (confirmed through the Eugene Register-Guard) that MLB Boseko Lokombo (6-3, 215), the 8th-rated MLB prospect in these United States, will not be attending South this fall. He and his family are moving back to British Columbia.
(OPS.net edit: Boseko Lokombo’s father Leon Lokombo explained “The family decided to let him go (to Eugene) last year for Grade 11. Now the family has decided that we now want him back here (British Columbia). It is a family decision.”)
Truly, a devastating week for Axemen Nation. That's a lot of talent to lose in the span of two days.
