School and work have forced a time crunch on me, but I’ll always have time for you…MWL Churchill (15-5, 9-2) were our big winners last week, beating Thurston 59-53 at the Lancer Dome to move ahead of the Colts in the MWL standings, and securing the head-to-head tiebreaker with Thurston. Essentially, Churchill’s got a two game lead over THS for the #1 seed, as a tie atop the league at season’s end would do the Colts no good. MWL Hoops

Blogs - MWL/SWC Blog Written by DRH Sunday, 25 January 2009 17:33 Hits: 433 Last year I created a Top 10 list that ranked the best MWL football teams of the current decade; now, with the season over time has been taken to reflect, I think it's clear that a new team is deserving of a spot in the Top 10.Disclaimer: In order to avoid the monotony of ranking each and every Sheldon season, I’ve put in order “the Sheldon rule,” which limits an individual school to a maximum of three spots on the list. Disclaimer #2: This is strictly limited to MWL teams. Sheldon and South Eugene’s 2006-08 seasons are not represented. #1 Sheldon 2002 (14-0, 8-0) The only state champion of the bunch, the Irish went wire to wire as the #1 team in the state. For good measure, they even cracked the USA Today end-of-season poll at #24, an unbelievably rare occurrence for an Oregon prep football team. MWL Hoops

It's the MWL Hoops blog, which also doubles as course credit at most state community colleges.MWL The nice thing about playing everybody in the MWL three times is that the seasons are nicely broken down into thirds. Blogs - MWL/SWC Blog Written by DRH Monday, 12 January 2009 19:18 Hits: 329 5AA few teams had a couple non-league loose ends to wrap up at the beginning of the week, before beginning the league schedule on Thursday and Friday. #8 Thurston outlasted Crescent Valley on Monday 49-44. The win moved the Colts to 7-2, and 15-4 in non-league games the last two years – three of the four losses in the last two years coming against ranked 6A schools (the other being to an undefeated Wilsonville team). Last year, the Colts got out of the gates hot (8-2) and rode it all the way to the 5A state semifinals. MWL Hoops

Churchill beat 6A South Eugene 52-50 in a thriller reminiscent of their old 4A MWL battles, and beat 6A Roseburg 58-51 the night after. MWL Hoops: Stupid Snow
Blogs - MWL/SWC Blog Written by DRH Sunday, 21 December 2008 14:41 Hits: 350 A couple winter storms brought high school hoops to its knees this past week, so there’s not a ton of action to report – but there are plenty of make-up games planned this week leading up to Christmas, and a few Holiday tournaments to talk about.Churchill The Lancers (3-2) never got to build on the momentum of their road win over #1 Jefferson, but have a pair of home games this week against two 6A schools: former league foe South Eugene on Monday, and Roseburg on Tuesday. Churchill has almost gotten to Christmas without playing in the Lancer Dome, so expect them to play well at home.
