Coming off the second straight season in which two MWL schools won trophies at state (top 6 finishes), the '08-09 season is filled with more question marks than usual, but it should be an exciting year both in the league, and statewide. I've compiled my predicted order of finish, my preseason All-MWL team, and a guide to the top non-league showdowns.1. Churchill Lancers 2007-08: 14-13 overall, 9-6 MWL (3rd place). Beat Hillsboro 61-56 in the 1st round of the 5A state playoffs, lost to Corvallis 70-53 in the 2nd. Key Losses: 6-5 F Blake Harrison (1st Team MWL). MWL/SWC: Final Four
Blogs - MWL/SWC Blog Written by DRH Sunday, 23 November 2008 21:13 Hits: 240 MWL#2 Thurston Colts (11-0) vs. #7 Glencoe Crimson Tide (10-3) How We Got Here: Thurston rolled through their regular season with a perfect 9-0 record, including a 5-0 league mark that earned the Colts the MWL #1 seed. They beat Klamath Union 58-40 in a 2nd round playoff game, and then outlasted #3 Sherwood last Friday 21-10 in a defensive struggle. Glencoe started 2008 3-2, but have won 7 of their last 8 games to make their second straight 5A semifinal. They won road playoff games at Bend and Madison before knocking of Hermiston at home in the quarterfinals, 30-27, on a controversial no-call. MWL/SWC Playoffs -- Quarterfinals

Ah, Homer.MWL #3 Sherwood Bowmen (10-1) @ #2 Thurston Colts (10-0) How We Got Here: Thurston captured the MWL #1 seed by coasting to an undefeated league season. After a 1st round bye, they beat visiting Klamath Union 58-40 in the 2nd round. The offense was clicking as per usual, but the defense struggle to contain a series of KU fly sweeps. Sherwood went 6-0 in the NWOC, securing the NWOC #1 seed and a 1st round bye. They hosted, and beat, South Albany 56-8 in the 2nd round. MWL/SWC Playoffs Second Round
