  • Gas prices are out; credit crunch is in; Sales are still down for local auto dealers, but for new reasons
    Local auto dealers have not been immune to the credit squeeze that has plagued the U. S. auto market, but the region’s dealerships say they could be in better shape than other parts of the country.U. S. auto sales plunged 26.6 percent in September, compared with the same month in 2007, according to Global Insight, a market research group based in Lexington, Mass. The decline occurred as the credit crisis replaced a slowing economy and high fuel prices as significant barriers to sales, Global Insight said.

  • Getting dirty; Bend runners sweep the top spots in the men’s and women’s races at Sunday’s Dirty Dozen Trail Run
    It was a close finish for both the men and women Sunday in the 6-mile Dirty Dozen Trail Run. Bend’s Michael Dennis darted across the finish line five seconds ahead of Paul Parsons, also of Bend.Though 33-year-old Dennis ran hard in the Twin Cities Marathon in Minnesota just last Sunday, he managed a winning time of 35 minutes and 54 seconds here in Central Oregon.
