Oregon High School SportsSweet Home AD/Boys Basketball Coach Arrested & ReleasedWritten by Andy Wooldridge (CCCougarfan) Friday, 06 April 2012 10:32 Hits: 946 Kostanty Knurowski Placed On Leave
Sweet Home Athletic Director and Boys' Basketball coach Kostanty Knurowski, 33, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of five counts of third degree sexual abuse. He was taken to the Linn County Jail and booked. Knurowski posted bail and was released.
Police began investigating Knurowski on March 26, after the family of a former Sweet Home High School student contacted them about events 2 years ago. The charges allege a pattern of sexual contact between Knurowski and the female student which lasted about seven months during the 2009-2010 school year.
The Sweet Home school district has placed Knurowski on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
"The district has taken steps to ensure that during this investigation Mr. Knurowski will not be around students at school," Sweet Home School District Superintendent Don Schrader said in a news release. "We absolutely want our students to feel safe at school. This kind of incident has an impact with our kids, with our staff, our staff were shocked about this whole thing, in all our schools. We don't want to see and have this kind of thing going on," Schrader said .

Thomas Tyner, Aloha HS junior sprinter, may go down as the top prep athlete ever in Oregon if he can stay healthy. His 2010-11 school year is one of the greatest ever – becoming state record holder in 100 meters and leading Aloha to a new 4x100 relay record, while adding 6A offensive player of the year in football as a sophomore. Tyner fought through hamstring injuries for another 1,000+ rushing yards last fall and is starting this track season slowly as he tries to regain top form. Get out and watch the fastest prep sprinter in Oregon history and one of the nation's top football recruits while you have the chance, so that one day you can say, “I saw Thomas Tyner run the 100 meter dash in high school!” And speaking of prep track and field in Oregon, you must mention the precocious multi-event star Haley Crouser of Gresham who smashed the National High School record in the javelin (held by fellow Oregonian, Newberg HS and U of O gradutate, Rachel Yurkovich) by throwing 181-feet 2-inches in a meet early this season. Crouser is a junior. She joins her brother Sam (Javelin, 244-2, in 2010 for Gresham) and cousin Ryan (Discus, 237-6, in 2011 for Barlow) as National Record holders. This budding heptathlete also has the leading mark in the state in the shot put this year and placed in four events at the state meet as a sophomore last year. The record throw, qualified the 6-foot Crouser for the Olympic Trials this summer, earning a chance to compete against the rest of the nations best javelin throwers for a spot on the 2012 Olympic team that will compete in London later this summer. Did I mention that she is just a junior, in high school? Two Oregon Coaches Named 2011 National Coaches of the YearWritten by Dan Smith Friday, 17 February 2012 16:24 Hits: 366 Roseburg's Thurman Bell (football) and Forest Grove's Rich Taylor (boys tennis) headline list of award recipients
Two coaches from Oregon have been selected 2011 National Coaches of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Coaches Association. The NFHS annually selects 21 National Coaches of the Year.
The NFHS, which has been recognizing coaches through an awards program since 1982, honors coaches in the top 10 girls sports and top 10 boys sports (by participation numbers), and in one “other” category that is not included in these 20 categories. Winners of NFHS awards must be active coaches during the year in which they receive their award. This year’s awards recognize coaches for the 2001- 11 school year. Recipients of the 2011 NFHS National Coaches of the Year from Oregon are Thurman Bell, Football, Roseburg High School and Rich Taylor, Boys Tennis, Forest Grove High School. Central massacres Newport and Roosevelt wants respect....Written by Jake Shields Saturday, 04 February 2012 09:06 Hits: 473 What everyone thought to be the top contender in the state for a state championship, Newport proved to buckle and unravel under the more dominant pressure of Central on Friday night. In Newport, Central got down and dirty on defense and forced Newport into bad shot selection, constant turnovers, almost zero rebounding and, what those around me pointed out, was a complete unraveling of the Newport team. Central was suffocating on defense and forced Newport to do exactly what it wanted, not score (0 in 4th qtr). Then on offense it maticulously chunked away a bigger and bigger lead until they left the City of Newport with a jaw-dropping 37 point win. You read it right 37 points. Yes, 59-22. Newport failed to score in the 4th quarter. What to say other than I was wrong with Newport after what I saw last night? They fell apart when the adversity of Central and their daunting defense went into their gym and gave them all they could handle. Tanner Omlid was prolific and everyone on Newport shrinked back into his shadow. Off-Season Training: Building a RoutineWritten by Alex Cartmill Monday, 14 November 2011 17:42 Hits: 314 Off-season training is the mold for a successful season. The term ‘practice makes perfect’ is tossed around to young athletes and Olympic gold medalists alike as motivational and instructive criticism. This is true, but modifying the over-used phrase just slightly transforms it to gold; perfect practice makes perfect. Many crucial pieces of training must be put together to complete the long and tedious jig-saw puzzle of success. An advantageous first stepping stone is building a routine. “Creating a game plan and being as clear as possible is the best way to go for results, motivation, and tracking,” says Scott White, certified personal trainer and nutritionist, “if you don't have a game plan that has the basics: assessment, program design, tracking, and making adjustments along the way. You are basically shooting darts in the dark.” An Optimal Performance Exercise Kinesiologist, White graduated from Arizona State with a BS in Kinesiology and International Sports Science Association certification and began his career in 1998 as a speed training specialist. 2011 Fall Dairy Farmers Academic All-State Program Winners AnnouncedWritten by Dan Smith Wednesday, 19 October 2011 16:11 Hits: 596 South Medford and Vale Girls Cross Country stride to perfect 4.0s

Road to Playoffs for 4A and 5A Changed for 2011-12Written by Dan Smith Thursday, 11 August 2011 11:05 Hits: 1043 Changes to Play-In format for state playoffs gets a makeover by 4A and 5A athletic directors.
Schools in both 5A and 4A classifications will see a slightly modified format for state playoff qualification beginning with the 2011-2012 school year. Athletic directors for these two classifications voted to make a change at the annual OADA conference in Sunriver.
For 5A, the change largely addresses the issue from last year where teams had to reserve 2 regular season games for play-in rounds at the end of the year. The first play-in round only involved the 10 bottom teams, which left the rest of the 5A schools with an open date that went largely unfilled. Football was especially impacted since teams had to leave an entire week open, which left a significant revenue void for many schools.
For 4A, the change tries to address the diminished Hybrid league, which is comprised of just 2 schools (Crook County and Roosevelt) after the closing of Marshall High School. It also opens up the additional playoff spots to all leagues (eventually), rather than rotating them around each year. Page 1 of 8 «StartPrev12345678NextEnd» |
