Huskies Hope For Statewide Support For Cause

Inspired by the example the NFL provided the past two weekends, North Marion High School, and Senior WR/DB, Kelly Christensen, are heading up a campaign to get the entire North Marion high school student body, and also players, coaches, and staff to participate in a "Pink Out" to show North Marion's support for the research and cure of Breast Cancer. The event is planned for Friday evening, October 16th. when the Huskies host the Elmira Falcons on Homecoming night.

North Marion has invited the Falcons to join in the "Pink Out" as well, and further asked everyone accross the state, and all teams playing this week, to join in making a statement that we are aware and will win this battle, by the very act of wearing pink in some form at this week's games.

Breast Cancer has taken many loved ones from us all and has left many strong survivors. Christensen and the Huskies ask only that everyone take the evening together, as a state and nation, to celebrate the fight and commitment to live strong in the Race For The Cure, by the simple act of the visible demonstration of awareness and support that pink shows.

Christensen said the event holds a special place in his heart, as his grandmother was afflicted with the disease. “I’m so thankful that my grandma is still here with me, but I know that there are a lot of people around the world that have lost their loved ones to breast cancer,” said Christensen.

Sherwood Supports The Cause

Sherwood is also supporting the cause, with a "Think Pink" theme to this week's contest with Hillsboro.

The Sherwood High School football program, in conjunction with the Student Council, invites all fans who attend Friday night’s football game in Sherwood against Hillsboro to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.

The Sherwood event was inspired by the NFL’s “A Crucial Catch” campaign, and the fact that Breast Cancer affects so many individuals in our communities. All proceeds from this event will directly benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the world’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to the fight against breast cancer.

The game pits the top-ranked and undefeated Sherwood Bowmen against the #3 ranked Hillsboro Spartans, two teams vying for a Northwest Oregon Conference championship.

Players will wear pink ribbon helmet decals, as well as pink socks. They can also wear pink armbands if they wish. The Sherwood coaching staff will be wearing pink hats and ribbons.

Sherwood High’s Student Council is heading the effort to get as many members of the student body as possible involved in the event. T-Shirts have been designed and ordered, posters have been distributed across the school district and town, and many small pink trinkets-- such as headbands and ribbons-- are in production for the event. Any t-shirts remaining after pre-sales will be made available before the start of the game.
