American Squad Sweeps Series
Senior 3A star players from the Class of 2008 competed in 2 softball games on June 22 at Valley Catholic HS in Beaverton. Game times were at 2:30 and 4:30pm. Seniors from the West Valley, East Oregon, and Sunset leagues will square off against seniors from the Lewis & Clark, PacWest, and Sunset leagues. Updated with game summaries, as well as rosters, which are listed below.
First game, 2-1 American.
American threatened a couple times,
but the Nationals got themselves out of a couple bases loaded jams. In the top
of the 6th. inning, the Nationals got on the score card with a
double, followed by an infield single that aggressive base running scored the
runner from second.
In the bottom of the inning,
Americans got a runner on with a hit batter. Next batter up was VC pitcher Sami
Picken, who missed her first bunt attempt, then got the hit sign and proceeded
to hit what her first ever over the fence home run to left field. She then went
out in the top of the 7th and got them out 1-2-3. Final was 2-1 American.
Second game, 3-2 American.
The American team got up 2-0 by the
end of the 4th. inning. The Nationals fought back to tie it at 2-2 in the
bottom of the 6th. inning. In the top of the 7th. inning, the Americans
scored the winning run on a wild pitch/passed ball situation where the catcher
couldn't find the ball right away and the runner on third was just able to get
under the tag at the plate.
