Lady Cavers Ranked 22nd.

The first USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 for 2009 has been released, and two Oregon teams were recognized.

The Grants Pass Lady Cavers, the defending 6A state champions, are ranked 22nd. nationally, after four wins in the North Medford tournament.

The Marist Spartans, undefeated and top ranked in the 4A Coaches' poll, and the defending 4A state champions, were on the "also receiving consideration" list.

Sheldon (Calif.) begins the season as the nation's top-ranked high school softball team, fresh off a victory at the Nike Faster to First Tournament in Huntington Beach, the Huskies grab the top spot with a 10-0 overall record.

The poll is compiled by state representatives from across the country.

Among the criteria considered are a school's strength of schedule, the quality of competition in its state or league, and the quality of its players.
