#1 TigerScots Flatten #3 Faith Bible in 2A Finale
FOREST GROVE - As expected, #1 Weston-McEwen dominated the 2A tournament and championship match with a 3-0 sweep of #3 Faith Bible. The TigerScots have appeared at Pacific seven consecutive years, winning a trophy each time. The Falcons from Hillsboro made their first ever appearance in the tournament, and played like it when it mattered most. In the title match, the vast experience difference was on full display as the 2010 champions played like they had been there before, while their opponents simply did not. But with no seniors on the Faith Bible roster, expect to see the Falcons playing late Saturday next year.
In the 3rd-5th place match, #4 Regis edged #7 Reedsport in five sets. In the 4th-6th place match #8 Bonanza knocked off #2 Days Creek in four sets. As for the OSAA rating system, two themes emerged: the Mountain View Conference teams that played mostly within their own league (#2 Days Creek and #6 North Douglas) turned out to be overrated by the OSAA computer. On the other hand, the two teams from the southern 3A/2A hybrids (#7 Reedsport and #8 Bonanza) were clearly underrated.
In the end it didn’t really matter as Weston-McEwen entered the tournament with more playoff appearances and trophies than the rest of the 2A field combined. The TigerScots lived up to their top seed with every other team literally playing for second place.

Overall, the new OSAA seeding system worked flawlessly in the 1A volleyball bracket. The top three seeds ultimately finished 1-2-3. At the other end #6 Hosanna Christian and #8 North Lake, both from the Mountain Valley League, were the first two teams eliminated.
