Braves Bust Bracket; MVC Swept 6-0

IMG_4299_edited-2#7 Reedsport spoiled the OSAA RPI bracket with a surprisingly dominant 3-0 sweep over #2 Days Creek in the late 2A volleyball quarterfinal. Until the Brave’s upset, the other three top seeds all swept away their lesser ranked opponents. #1 Weston-McEwen knocked off #8 Bonanza 3-0; #3 Faith Bible had little trouble with #6 North Douglas 3-0; and #4 Regis continued its dominance over TRV rival #5 East Linn Christian Academy 3-0. Semifinals tonight at 8:30 pm.

Top ranked Weston-McEwen took the best shot from #8 Bonanza yet came away with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-11 sweep of the Antlers to advance to tonight’s semifinals. The TigerScots controlled the match from start to end and looked every bit the role of a top seed. But coach Shawn White’s squad will be tested by a #3 Regis, fresh down from 3A this year.

The Rams made sure #5 East Linn Christian Academy would not see the right side of the bracket in the Eagles first-ever volleyball tournament appearance. Regis jumped out to an early 18-2 and 22-6 lead in set one and rolled to a 25-18, 25-16, 25-23 sweep of their TRC rival. Weston-McEwen and Regis meet at 8:30 on Court 1.

#3 Faith Bible wasted no time making a good first impression as the Falcons form the Northwest League burst out to a 14-1 lead in set one and crushed #6 North Douglas 25-4. The Warriors made a decent showing the next to sets, but Faith Bible was simply too storng, winning both sets 25-17, 25-20 to advance to the semifinals in the school’s first ever appearance in a OSAA volleyball tournament.

Whether #7 Reedsport’s 3-0 swep over #2 Days Creek is an upset depends on how oen views the Mountain View Conference and its effect on the OSAA RPI formula. Both Days Creek and North Douglas form the MVC were rated higher than Reedsport, yet the Braves were superior to either MVC team. Reedsport stunned the Wolves in set one 25-17. Days Creek, fresh up from 1A a year ago, led set two 24-21 and appeared to be ready to even the match. But Reedsport scored the next five unanswered points to win 26-24 and set up a decisive set three. Days Creek never recovered from the late collapse in set two and the Braves rolled 25-13 to advance to the 8:30 semifinal against Faith Bible.
